There is a very blurry line between taking your inspiration from another culture and complete, offensive appropriation.  Everyone defines it differently, but these brands, both European, seem to be playing fast and loose.  Whether or not you find them offensive, they are both ugly, and turn culture into costume.

Silicone shoulder tee by Seelenkleid, $239.00 at Pixie Market. I any other color combination, this could be a cool idea.  However, in white, it is giving off a Sasha Grey vibe - if you know what i mean.

Submission by Sarah.  Sarah said, “just seems like the designer had a bunch of left over scraps of fabric and decided to throw them all together in a dress. We are in a recession after all.”  I have noticed this trend lately.  It’s a “throw it against the wall and see what sticks” philosophy to design.  A little bit of Balenciaga’s wrapped prints, a dash of Preen’s cutouts, and a hint of color blocking equals one messy dress.
