Vivienne  Westwood stans are going to insist that I  just don’t get it.  That her clothes are more than just clothes, they are political manifestos and yadda yadda yadda.  I get it, but I don’t think they get that it looks like they are wearing a beach towel.

And I am back!

Sorry for being gone, if anyone is still reading.  I had to deal with real life but now I am back and fashion hasn’t gotten any better.  Take this dress for example.  Normally leaves are a rather suggestive motif.  Just think of Adam and Eve hiding their shame with fig leaves.  Rachel Pally takes the leaf and puts it all over a muumuu.

Fashion Failure Poll Time!!!!

Tell me, which of these two looks is more offensive to Native Americans?

Dreamcatcher skirt by Ann-Sofie Back, $285 at Acrimony or

Long sleeve suede fringe dress by Oasis, $170.94 at Asos

There is a very blurry line between taking your inspiration from another culture and complete, offensive appropriation.  Everyone defines it differently, but these brands, both European, seem to be playing fast and loose.  Whether or not you find them offensive, they are both ugly, and turn culture into costume.

Goatskin and denim dress by D&G, $2,091.60 at LuisaViaRoma.

Earlier today I was enjoying the country themed episode of RuPaul’s Drag Race.  The drag queens had to dress up in their best country bumpkin costumes.  This is the sort of thing they wore.

Embroidered dress by Ralph Lauren, $4,598.00 at Neiman Marcus.

You know the 90’s are back in a major way when designers are putting long, sheer curtain dresses over jeans.  Be afraid, be very afraid.

Silicone shoulder tee by Seelenkleid, $239.00 at Pixie Market.

I any other color combination, this could be a cool idea.  However, in white, it is giving off a Sasha Grey vibe - if you know what i mean.

Split shoulder dress by M Missoni, $595.00 at Shopbop.

Submission by Sarah.  Sarah said, “just seems like the designer had a bunch of left over scraps of fabric and decided to throw them all together in a dress. We are in a recession after all.”  I have noticed this trend lately.  It’s a “throw it against the wall and see what sticks” philosophy to design.  A little bit of Balenciaga’s wrapped prints, a dash of Preen’s cutouts, and a hint of color blocking equals one messy dress.

Duct tape dress by Cheap Monday, $60.00 at Shopbop.

This dress was submitted by Sarah.  She says the dress reminds her of, ” those bodysuits that actors have to wear when shooting a scene that needs CGI added to it, or possibly a hobo.”

Both excellent observations, in my opinion.

Pearl dot dress by KTZ, £200.00 at Topshop.

Submitted by laughlikesilver, who described this dress as a lady bug meeting star wars and then morphing into a swimsuit.

Interestingly, this isn’t available on the US Topshop website, so I am very grateful to the submitter because otherwise I would have completely missed this terrible creation.
