White tribal wedges by Jeffrey Campbell, $150.00 exclusively at Karmaloop.
In recent years, Jeffrey Campbell has made a name for himself as the Steve Madden of edgier designs. His shoes knock off Ann Demeulemeester, Chloe Sevigny for Opening Ceremony, and Acne among others. This pair takes Givenchy’s tribal print wedges, and reproduces it in a cheap, plastic leather. The print is over the top, and it only works on the Givenchys because of the luxurious material, which the Campbells lack. They then covered the wedge in common thumbtacks, and not even well as some of the tacks overlap poorly. I have seen more steady hands on blogger diys. All in all, it makes for on hot mess of a shoe.
Skull sandal by Guiseppe Zanotti, $450.00 at Madison LA.
Here is another example of the summer sandal failures being rolled out. With 10% sales tax, these shoes will hit $500 bucks. Five hundred bucks for 4 strips of fabric and 2 charms. On the bright side, you will have the most badass, rock on roll big toes on the block.
Zip sequin riding pant by Stolen Girlfriends Club, $257.00 at BuyDefinition.
Lets try to ignore the name of the brand. Personally, I automatically judge labels that try to be overly witty or grandiose in their names (see also: Society for Rational Dress).
Beyond that, and despite being rather provocative, these somehow remind me of mom jeans. I think it has to do with the zipper. Exposed and contrasting zippers are very trending right now, as are high waists. However, in making the zipper so noticeable, the designers are also drawing attention to how long it is, resembling mom jeans. I don’t know how I would feel if my mom walked out wearing these babies.
Embellished Suede shoes by Giuseppe Zanotti, $1,595.00 at Shopbop.
Individually, all the elements here could actually work. Even the bedazzled top part could work in a deliberately cheesy 80’s way. However, taking a yellow strappy sandal and covering it with floral beading, Native American inspired stripes, and bedazzled crystals creates a horror vacui that is just horrific.
